Response None of the sources in this article draft are from press releases. All of the sourcing comes from major and highly respected media outlets. And Adoil Descended (talk)
Response I might point out that since this subject was protected in 2012, the Benzinga news site has been used as a source in multiple Wikipedia articles. I would like to think that after nine years the subject is no longer in need of protection and might be ready for an article that meets Wikipedia editorial standards. Thank you. Response to S0091: I am assuming that you did not read the article and check its sourcing, as all of the submission's references are focused on the subject and are not "passing mention" - even the headlines of the articles reference the subject. And all of these sources qualify as "published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject." Furthermore, the subject itself is widely quoted as a source on Wikipedia, which makes this the very rare case of a media source that is notable enough to be referenced for Wikipedia articles but not notable enough to the subject of its own article. Request for second opinion review: I am resubmitting this article with the specific request of a second opinion. I find the arguments rejecting the second rewrite to be unsatisfactory - the claims that the coverage is merely "passing mentions" in non-notable media is false. Thank you. Benzinga is a U.S. news media platform focusing on stock market and economic news, headquartered in Detroit. Founded in 2010 as a home-based company, it was acquired in 2021 by Beringer Capital, a private equity firm headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

History[edit]

Jason Raznick launched Benzinga in 2010 from the basement of his home in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham, naming it using an invented word from his childhood;[1][2] in 2021, he said the company's mission was to "democratize financial news" by bringing "easier-to-consume news to retail traders, in order to even the playing field between main street and Wall Street".[3] Early investors in the company included Groupon co-founders Brad Keywell and Eric Lefkofsky, in 2011 through their technology investment fund Lightbank LLC.[4]

Originally a business blog platform focusing on small-cap stocks,[1] Benzinga grew to 25 employees by 2012.[4] It moved in 2015 to an office strip in Southfield,[1] and late the same year, with 35 employees, to One Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.[5] In August 2021, Inc. named it to its annual list of the fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S.[3] Raznick said in October 2021 that the company was publishing 800–1,200 headlines and 80–150 stories a day; the company then had 150 writers, more than 75 full-time.[1]

In October 2021, private equity firm Beringer Capital, based in Toronto, acquired a majority stake in Benzinga at a valuation of $300 million; Raznick retained a large stake and the company announced it would remain in Detroit.[1][6][7][8]

Operations[edit]

Benzinga publishes online financial news and analytics for investors, including both free content and Benzinga Pro, with monthly subscription fees starting at $99. As of October 2021, it claimed to have about 25 million readers a month, more than 4 times its 2016 readership, and more than 1 million email subscribers.[1][6][7] Its content is also distributed by financial news portals including Yahoo! Finance, MSN Money, and MarketWatch and is licensed by media companies including Bloomberg and Dow Jones.[9] Journalists writing for the company include Forbes senior contributor Javier Hasse and U.S. News & World Report contributor Wayne Duggan.[10][11]

The company also hosts annual events including the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference, the Benzinga Crypto Festival,[7] and the Benzinga Global Small Cap Conference, awards the Benzinga Global Fintech Awards,[1] and offers a paid promotional package to marketing partners to feature their brands in articles and online videos. However, a report by the Columbia Journalism Review in October 2021 found that some of the promotional articles were not properly identified when syndicated through other media outlets.[12]
