Kerala Dust is a British electronic music band, formed in London in 2016. Currently based in Berlin and Zurich, the band consists of Edmund Kenny (vocals, electronics), Harvey Grant (keys) and Lawrence Howarth (guitar).[1]

Music career[edit]

Kerala Dust was originally formed in 2016 by producer and songwriter Edmund Kenny as an alias for his solo productions while studying music at Goldsmiths, University of London. Kenny uploaded early productions to Soundcloud under the Kerala Dust alias, and was signed by the Cologne-based record label Laut & Luise for a first official release that same year.[2] The 'Late Sun' EP was released on Laut & Luise in early 2017.[3] Looking for a way to differentiate the project from other contemporary electronic musicians, Kenny invited his housemates, pianist Harvey Grant and guitarist Lloyd Calderon-Polson, to join the project for live performances.[4] Kerala Dust toured extensively from 2017 onwards, playing in Europe, Mexico, and embarking on a first tour of the United States. SF Weekly said of their concert at San Francisco's Public Works that "[...] the crowd was enraptured throughout the duration of Kerala Dust’s hypnotic performance. Accompanied by psychedelic visuals on the walls surrounding the stage, the band took the audience on a journey that seamlessly bridged house and downtempo, with a mix of funk and jazz. Trying to pigeonhole Kerala Dust into one, or even two, genres is not only difficult, but unserviceable to their experimental nature."[5]

In 2020, Kerala Dust released a debut LP entitled 'Light, West'.[6] In 2021, Kerala Dust released a live concert and experimental film entitled 'Live, West', in which they re-interpreted the songs from the album.[7]
