Kereskes Band is a Hungarian folk-rock band from Eger. The band combines folk music basics with elements of funk, jazz, rock and electronic genres.

History

The band Kerekes was formed in 1995 in Eger. The early years were spent collecting and learning authentic folk music, and running Táncházs throughout the country for nearly ten years. The first album entitled Kereskes Band (Hungarian Folk Music from Gyimes and Moldva, Fütyül a masina.) was released in 2006. Their second album, Pimasz, has since become a gold and platinum record, launching the band to national and international fame. They have performed in almost every country in Europe and have performed almost regularly at festivals in their home country of Hungary. The band's notoriety was further enhanced by the gold record What The Folk ?! album, which brought the first Phonogram Award for the Kerekes Band and the first radio hit, Mr. Hungary, which topped the MR2 hit list for weeks. The second Phonogram Award went to Folklore Man, who then performed on a live concert album titled Live at A38.
