The course was designed by William F. Bell, and opened in 1953.[2] It is a full 18-hole golf course, situated on hilly terrain near the base of the Greenhorn Mountains.[1] Various local tournaments are held throughout the year.
Kern River Golf Course has hosted many tournaments, including the Kern County Amateur for decades. It features some of the longest Par 3 holes in the county, as well as elevated greens and Bermuda grass fairways. There are three practice areas, as well as a driving range, and Professional Golf Instruction. A snack bar, and snack shack on the 6th tee provide food and refreshment for golfers. Tees range from Blue to new 'Family Tees' for a shorter course for Junior Golfers and their families.
