Kestra
Comment: I am concerned there may have been some LLM use here. Wikipedia articles need to be 100% human text. Also, this is too much telling us about the product (as if we were potential customers) and not enough telling us what independent sources have said about it. What do reviewers actually say about it?You may want to read WP:CORPTRIV for information about routine business news that doesn't establish notability. The funding rounds fall squarely into that. Kestra is an open-source workflow orchestration platform released under the Apache License 2.0. It allows users to define, schedule, and run workflows using a declarative YAML syntax, and supports the execution of tasks written in several programming languages.[1][2]
History
Kestra Technologies was co-founded by Emmanuel Darras, formerly a co-founder of the French video game studio Ankama and Ludovic Dehon. Development began in 2021, with the source code released on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0;[1] the software was made publicly available in February 2022.[3] It was initially developed to address the data-flow orchestration needs of the French retailer Leroy Merlin, where it was deployed in production.[4]
In fact, Emmanuel Darras told VentureBeat that he ran into Apache Airflow's limits during a deployment at the large European retailer, which led him to design Kestra based on a fundamentally different architecture.[5]
As reported by L'Usine Digitale and TechCrunch, Kestra raised an $8 million seed round by led by Alven.[6][7] And in 2026, the company announced a $25 million Series A, which brought the total funding to $36 million.[8][9]
Design
Kestra workflows, called flows, are defined in YAML files. Each flow specifies a namespace, an identifier, a list of tasks, and optional triggers.[1] TechCrunch adds that given Kestra's usage of YAML for orchestration, it is language agnostic, meaning it can work with Python, JavaScript, R, or any other language the developer prefers.[1]
The platform supports scheduled execution as well as event-driven triggers.[10] For example, a flow can be triggered once a file is detected on Google Cloud Storage or results come back from an SQL query.[2]
Kestra engine records the execution state of each individual task. As a result, workflows can wait for external events and apply error handling to specific tasks. They can also execute tasks in parallel and resume at the point of interruption after a delay of hours or days.[3]
In addition to the open-source edition, Kestra offers a commercial enterprise edition.[1] A 2025 review of open-source orchestration projects noted that some features, including single sign-on, are available only in that edition.[11]
According to Venture Beat, whule Airflow histroircally focus on data engineering teams, Kestra's architecture addresses infrastructure automation, business process management and data workflows in a single platform.[5]
