Kevin George (born August 5, 1997) is an American rapper and producer.[2] His debut EP LOVELAND was released in January 2018 and featured his most successful single to date, “High Like This”. [2][3] Two more EPs, Fortina (which included She Don’t Love Me with Gunna) and Hopeless Romantic were released that same year. [4]
Early life
George was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, a community which he has referenced as lacking a music scene.[2][5] Initially, George had pursued athletics with the eventual dream of attaining a higher education through a football scholarship, but began to focus on music following his coach’s firing when he was 16. [2][5]
Career
2018–Present
In 2018, after releasing a video for his lead single “High Like This”, George began to receive major exposure across the music industry and was cited in Yahoo’s Best New Artists of the Month for January 2018.[6] In April 2018, he released his debut EP LOVELAND to high fanfare with Vice declaring him an up-and-coming rapper.[7]
Following his release of two EPs – LOVELAND and Fortina, George signed with Island Records in August 2018.[8] After only a short duration with the label, George left Island Records in April 2020 calling it “the worst decision I’ve made thus far” citing the pressure from a big investment impacting his creativity. [9] In April 2020, he released his latest EP THREE CAN PLAY, AT LOVE calling it a “back to basics” approach. [9]
