Kevin Strouse is a former Army Ranger and CIA analyst. He is running for Congress in Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Personal life and education

Strouse was born into a military family, with his father serving in the Vietnam War and both grandfathers serving in World War II. Strouse grew up in Delaware County.[1] Strouse earned a BA from Columbia University. While at Columbia, Strouse wrote columns for the Columbia Spectator.[2] Strouse also earned a Master's Degree in security studies from Georgetown University, where he graduated with honors. Strouse lives in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.[3] Strouse has a wife, Amy, and two young children.

Career

Strouse joined the Army Rangers in May 2001, at a time when he had no idea that he would eventually deploy to the Middle East.[4] Strouse served as a Ranger for three years, advancing to the rank of Specialist. Strouse served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iraq, Strouse took part in both the initial invasion and in the rescue of Jessica Lynch. Strouse then spent eight years with the CIA, including six with the CIA's Counterterrorism Center.[5] Strouse is the Program Director of Teach2Serve, an organization dedicated to involving high school students in the non-profit sector.[6]

2014 Congressional candidacy

Strouse is running for Congress in Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district; the seat is currently held by Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick. Strouse was encouraged to run by former Congressman Patrick Murphy,[7] and is one of numerous Democratic veteran recruits.[8] Strouse was named to the DCCC's Jumpstart Program, a program designed to provide support to promising Democratic recruits.[9]
