Khalid Ismail is a Moroccan Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter who trains himself and other fighters at his series of Lions Den Gym (LDG)Fitness Centres gyms in east London.[1]

Introduction[edit]

With titles including WAKO 2005, 2007, 2008 British Heavyweight Champion and BASMAA British Champion 1998-2001,[2] Khalid started learning Karate at the age of 5 and then soon took up kick-boxing in which he trained with Shihan Greg Wallace until he retired in 2001. Khalid then took up training with Sensei Cris Mcniesh and added Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to his repertoire in 2000, followed by Olympic freestyle wrestling in 2001. He now competes in both these disciplines. Khalid makes his debut fight in MMA in 2011. After winning against Tom Kelly and Wayne Brown, securing victory in just 8 seconds with a leg break [3] Khalid suffered a setback in his career plans in September 2011. Khalid was due to fight in UCMMA’S HANDS OF WAR 24 on 22 October but during one of the last training sessions, he tore his bicep tendon clean off [4] Following the doctor's advice, Khalid pulled out and immediately had surgery to repair the tear.

Khalid believes everything happens for a reason so although this setback cost him a fight he plans to get back in the cage in late 2012.Khalid wants to work "onwards and upwards" to fulfil his professional potential in MMA.

On 5 October 2013 Khalid Ismail became the UCMMA Welterweight Champion at UCMMA 36 by default as all his opponents have turned down the fight and no one in the Welterweight division would fight him.

LDG Fitness Centres[edit]

Khalid trains himself and other professional fighters at his LDG Fitness Centre in Chadwell Heath, which he founded in 2006 [5] to give people somewhere to train which had everything a beginner or serious trainer would want in a friendly, affordable high quality gym.

Following the success of the gym in Chadwell Heath with membership in the thousands, Khalid and his team opened a brand new centrally located branch in Romford in January 2010. The Centre gained a record number of new members in the first few months thanks to a very low cost membership deal where members can have full use of a wide range of brand new equipment and a varied choice of fitness and martial arts classes for men, women and children of all ages.
