Khatija Begum, better known as Khatija, is a fictional character and a protagonist of the movie Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal. The character was portrayed by Samantha Ruth Prabhu in Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, she is also one of the main characters in the film as well.[1] Khatija was created and developed by Vignesh Shivan.[2][3][4] Khatija was also said to be the critically acclaimed character among viewers and fans of the film compared to the other main characters such as Rambo (played by Vijay Sethupathi) and Kanmani (played by Nayanthara).[5][6]
The character received positive feedback from critics for her glamour look in the film.

Casting[edit]
Before the role of Khatija was given to Samantha Ruth Prabhu, it was mentioned that actress Trisha was going to play Khatija rather then Samanatha. However due to Trisha's left the film. Vignesh Shivan later approached Samantha who was already his second alternative after Trisha and he requested if she could fulfill the role of Khatija and she later agreed and she joined the cast.[9]
Reception[edit]
Samantha Ruth Prabhu praised her role in the film saying that "Khatija was the only role that allowed herself to be The Funny Girl".[10] She also stated on her Twitter page talking about the character Khatija and how it affected her, she said "I wanted to be a part of a film that made people smile. Not think .. not over analyse…not dissect. Just take a break from our day to day issues and laugh a little. #Khatija and #KaathuvakulaRenduKaadhal was that for me".[11][12]
Fans stated that they went to watch the movie on the first day of the films theater release, especially for Samantha's appearance in the film and her character as Khatija which is "Stardom". The following day on Twitter, Samantha was overwhelmed and thanked her fans for the support they awarded Khatija.[13][14]
Social Media impact[edit]
Khatija's character greatly impacted social media in a positive way after many Indian social media public figures started get inspired by Khatija's outfits in the movie and the #Khatija went trending on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.[15] Khatija's outfits throughout the movie was also praised by critics and fans stating that its "eye catching" and "sexy".[16][17][18]
