Khawar Mann
Khawar Mann OBE is a British private equity executive and charity co-founder.
Early life and education
Mann holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Fulbright and Thouron scholar.[1] He also earned a Master of Arts and Master of Laws (LLM) in Medical Sciences and Law from the University of Cambridge.[2]
Career
Early career
Mann began his career as a lawyer with Linklaters in London, specializing in corporate finance and intellectual property. He subsequently moved to Weston Medical Group PLC as Commercial Director before transitioning to private equity in 2003.
Apax Partners
Mann joined Apax Partners, the international private equity firm, where he became Partner and Co-Head of the healthcare investment team.[1] During his tenure at Apax, he led healthcare investments across Europe and Asia, including investments in hospital groups and healthcare service providers.
From 2012 to 2013, Mann served as Chairman and President of Medsi Group, Russia's largest private healthcare company.[3]
Healthcare in emerging markets
Mann joined The Abraaj Group as Managing Director of the healthcare team, where he led the $1 billion Growth Markets Health Fund. The fund focused on building healthcare systems in emerging markets across Africa and South Asia, making investments in healthcare providers including Care Hospitals in India, Avenue Group in Kenya, and Islamabad Diagnostics Centre.[2]
In 2019, TPG Capital acquired management of the healthcare fund and renamed it The Evercare Health Fund.[4] Mann served as Chief Executive Officer of Evercare Group, overseeing the fund's healthcare operations across multiple countries, until May 2019 when he stepped down to pursue other opportunities.
Current activities
Mann serves as Chairman of the UK selection committee for the Thouron Award, which provides scholarships for British students to attend graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania.[3] He is Co-Founder and CEO of Auxilium Services, an employer of record business operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council region, and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Skai Health, a healthcare concierge service in the Middle East.[5]
Mosaic charity
In 2007, Mann co-founded Mosaic with John O'Brien MBE at the initiative of King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) through Business in the Community. The charity delivers mentoring programmes in primary and secondary schools and prisons to support young people from disadvantaged communities.
Under Mann's chairmanship, Mosaic expanded significantly. In 2013, Prime Minister David Cameron awarded Mosaic the Big Society Award.[6] At that time the charity was supporting 6,000 young people across 150 schools and prisons with approximately 1,100 volunteer mentors. Mann personally mentored young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and helped establish the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge, a computer-based educational game.[6]
Honours
Mann was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2012 New Year Honours for his services to young people through Mosaic.[7] He received the honour from King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace in March 2014.
