Khmer Beverages (KHB) is a Cambodian producer of alcohol and non-alcohol drinks founded by Chip Mong in 2009 and owned 100% by Cambodian investors.[1]. The company produced Cambodia Beer [2] as its first product [3] and since then developed a diverse range of products such IZE Carbonated Soft Drink [4], Wurkz Energy Drink [5], and Cambodia Purified Drinking Water [6].
Background[edit]
Having witnessed the constantly growing demands of the market and the complete absence of local investors in beer industry in Cambodia, Chip Mong took an opportunity and invested in the field of beer production in 2009. Chip Mong broke ground on a 9-hectare plot of land, launching the construction of Khmer Brewery [7] in Cheung Ek, Phnom Penh, breathing new life into an area notorious for its Khmer Rouge-era ‘killing field’. Over the past decade, this suburban area has been transformed into a major industrial complex, producing standard beer and beverages, and adding value to the local community through social and environmental programs.
Khmer Brewery was inaugurated in 2011[8] with Cambodia Beer as its very first product [9]. Its machinery and production line could produce 60 million litres of beer annually [10].
In 2013, Khmer Brewery expanded its production plant for the second time, which enabled its production capacity to over 200 million litres per year.
In 2015, Khmer Beverages expanded its facilities and increased production for the third time. Its third major expansion was completed in 2017, increasing its production capacity with annual production capacity reaching 600 million litres [11]. The name ‘Khmer Brewery’ was changed to ‘Khmer Beverages’ with the introduction of new range of beers, soft drinks, and water product, including Kudo Lager Beer, Barrley Extra Stout Beer [12], Wurkz Energy Drink, IZE Carbonated Soft Drink and Joop Asian Juice [13], as well as Cambodia Water.[14][not in citation given]
Khmer Beverages announced its official partnership with Manchester City [15], one of the top football clubs in the English Premier League in 2017. Khmer Beverages launched the new logo of the company and the new look of Cambodia Beer in 2019 [16].
Production[edit]
The production plant uses only the ingredients from Europe, which undergo through rigorous quality assurance process to maintain the quality [17], and is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, powered by the latest technology from Germany [18]
Operation[edit]
More than 1,000 local and international staff are currently employed full-time at Khmer Beverages with strong commitment to produce the standard beer and beverages products for Cambodia and the region and contribute to the expansion growth and success of the company .
