Khyber "Khy" Kabellis (born July 25, 1996) is a former college basketball player for the North Dakota State Bison, Pacific Tigers, and UC Riverside Highlanders.
High school career[edit]
Kabellis played basketball for the La Jolla Country Day School in La Jolla, CA and helped bring them a Division 4 CIF championship in 2012.[1] As a sophomore, he transferred to Escondido High School in Escondido, CA. As a senior, Kabellis led Escondido High School to a Division 1 CIF championship.[2] He was also named the Avocado East League player of the year.[3] Shortly before his graduation, Kabellis committed to play college basketball for North Dakota State.[4]
College career[edit]
As a freshman, Kabellis was the starting point guard for North Dakota State. On February 13, 2016 he set a season-high of 21 points in a 76–69 loss to the University of Nebraska Omaha.[5] In his freshman season, Kabellis averaged 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.7 steals per game.[6]
As a sophomore, Kabellis averaged 11.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.[7] On January 19, 2017, he scored a career-high 25 points in an 89–83 win over Purdue Fort Wayne.[8] On February 11, 2017, Kabellis garnered national attention with a shot in which he scored on his own team's basket.[9]
After the season, Kabellis was recruited to Pacific by head coach Damon Stoudamire.[10] As a redshirt junior, Kabellis averaged 4.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.6 steals per game.[11] On February 28, 2019, he scored a season-high 13 points in an 86–66 loss to Gonzaga.[12] After the season, Kabellis grad-transferred to UC Riverside.[13] As a redshirt senior, he averaged 5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and .9 steals per game.[14]
