Kidō Senshi Gundam: Senjō no Kizuna 2 (機動戦士ガンダム 戦場の絆,Mobile Suit Gundam: Bonds of the Battlefield II, Mobile Suit Survival Game), is a sequel to the popular Japanese arcade game Kidō Senshi Gundam: Senjō no Kizuna, set in the original Gundam universe (Mobile Suit Gundam). The game was created by Bandai Namco and Sunrise (company) and was released late 2006. Play involves stepping into a cockpit surrounded by 3 vertical monitors and doing battle with other players across Japan.[1]
Overview[edit]
The game was launched in Japan on July 27 2021 with arcades usually equipped with four stations (some amusement centers have more) and one pilot terminal. Battles are held online across Japan against other players from opposing factions (全国対戦).
In this game, players become pilots of giant robot mobile suits from the anime series. Pilots play through two battle scenarios lasting a total game time of ten minutes. Pilot cards are purchased at the game's pilot terminal. A large monitor replays the last battle and an angled touch screen user interface is used to manage pilot battle data. Almost all text is in kanji, hiragana, and katakana.[2]
The official servers for the previous iteration of Kidō Senshi Gundam: Senjō no Kizuna were terminated on November 30, 2021 at 2:00 AM.
Gameplay[edit]
Players control their mobile suit in game via 2 angled control sticks for horizontal movement, and a pedal system for vertical movement and boost. Typically, a mobile suit will have 4 ways to attack, melee (beam saber or axe), Primary weapon, Grenade, Head Cannons. Whilst using these, players will fight the opposing team in a semi open-world environment with a specific mission objective. At the end of the match, there is a ranking system which rewards players based on the amount of points they accumulated.
Updates[edit]
Hardware
- There is no longer a POD that encapsulates the system
- The use of 3 vertical screens over a hemispherical projected display. This makes it more accurate to the TV show, as well as updating the graphics and refresh rate.
Game
- As the game is relatively new, there are still only 14 Mobile Suit options per faction
