Kidnapping of Angela Hammond

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ford F100 pickup similar to the vehicle witnessed at the scene

Angela Hammond was kidnapped around 11:45 at night on April 4 from Clinton, Missouri in 1991. She had been approached whilst using a payphone in a parking lot outside the Food Barn Store [1]in the center of town, in the area of Jefferson Street and 2nd Street.[2] She was aged twenty and four months pregnant.[3] Her boyfriend Rob Shafer heard her scream and gave chase to a late 1960s or early 1970s green (and possibly white topped) Ford F150 pickup matching her description and observed it had a fish jumping out of the water decal covering the rear window.[4] His transmission broke down after around one or two miles and he walked until a passerby gave him a lift to a police station.[5]

The case is covered in season four, episode 16 of Unsolved Mysteries with co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer calling this the mystery that haunts her most. “That one just gets me,” she said at the time, describing it as “heartbreaking.”[6] Links to the murder of Trudy Darby in Missouri were suggested.[7] A farm was searched to no avail.[8] The case remains unsolved but in 2021 it was suggested the abduction may have been a case of mistaken identity.
