Fabiole Camara De Campos (died 4 November 2021) was a Brazilian woman who was killed in her apartment in Dublin, Ireland, on 4 November 2021. Her husband, Diego Costa Silva, is accused of her murder, and has been detained by Gardaí.

Background[edit]

Fabiole Camara De Campos and her husband Diego Costa Silva were both from Brazil, and married there in July 2016. They came to Ireland in December that same year,[1] and had been living together in an apartment on St Margaret's Road, in Finglas.[2] In the week before De Campos' death, Silva had been arrested due to concerns about his mental state. He had been found partially clothed, wandering the streets of Dublin, and was taken to a Garda station where he was assessed by the doctor. His condition wasn't found to be serious enough to warrant sectioning him, and so he was released and referred for further treatment.[3]

Murder[edit]

De Campos was killed following a "very violent" knife attack in the early hours of Thursday 4 November 2021, sustaining extensive injuries to her head and neck.[2][3] Silva reported the incident to the authorities himself, and was arrested at approximately 6.15 a.m.[3] Detective Sergeant Louise McHugh said that Silva made no reply when she charged him with De Campos' murder.[4]

Trial[edit]

The Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, which hosts the Dublin District Court.[5]

Silva appeared before judge Gráinne Malone at Dublin District Court on 6 November 2021. An interpreter was provided for him to facilitate him understanding the proceedings. When asked if he wanted to nominate a solicitor under the legal aid scheme, Silva made no response. Judge Malone nevertheless granted Silva Legal aid, noting that he was unemployed. Silva gave no indication as to how he will plead in response to the charges. Judge Malone consented to solicitor Eddie O'Connor's request that psychiatric treatment be granted to Silva.[2] Silva was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison,[6] and will appear before Cloverill District Court on 19 November 2021.[2]
