Shooting
At around 9 p.m. on May 30, 2026, LMPD officers were informed that a man was running through the streets naked while responding to an assault in the Klondike neighborhood. Officers saw Martin Nitzken Jr., a 27-year-old man who was naked and unarmed, and was refusing officers' commands to show his hands. Nathan Stotts, an officer with the LMPD, told Nitzken to stop before fatally shooting him.[2][3]
Aftermath
After the incident, LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey began the termination process for Stotts, and Stotts is set to be criminally investigated.[4] Stotts joined the LMPD in February 2024 and had no prior disciplinary record.[5]
