On July 6, 2022, the Beckley Police Department in Beckley, West Virginia conducted a car chase on 36-year-old Matthew Scott Jones of Culpeper, Virginia starting at approximately 10:00 A.M. (EDT). Jones refused to stop and a pursuit traveled into Fayette County, West Virginia and back into the Bradley area of Raleigh County.[1]
The pursuit subsequently ended when Jones' stolen vehicle became disabled, resulting in him exiting the vehicle and waving a pistol, at one point ultimately pointing the gun to his head as a scare tactic. Jones was shot and killed by officers on near the ramp of Interstate 64 in Bradley, West Virginia.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The amount of rounds fired are currently unknown, but speculations say that the police used bean bag rounds, a less lethal round.
A press conference from the Beckley Police Department revealed the suspect's identity on July 7, 2022.[8][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
