Klaus Lovgreen (born April 5, 1969) is a Danish entrepreneur who founded AME Info in 1996 which was acquired by Emap plc in 2006.[1] In 2011 he founded evershift focusing on private investments, music rights[2] and digital content development.
Personal life[edit]
Lovgreen grew up in Fredensborg, Denmark where he attended public school at Endrupskolen, graduated from Espergærde Gymnasium in 1988 in mathematics and graduated as a Bachelor of Commerce and Marketing in 1990 from Hillerød Handelsskole.
Career[edit]
Lovgreen founded Arabian Modern Equipment Est. in Abu Dhabi in 1993 together with Saif Al-Suwaidi.[3] In 1996 they launched AME Info as a CD-ROM business directory as well as an online service for the Middle East. AME wwas providing mobile content for the region already in May 1999 by developing Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) compliant content [4] and later in 2000 through a partnership with iSyndicate.[5]
In the early 2000 AME Info became one of the main online providers of business and financial information in and about the Middle East[6] and was the first online media in the region to be audited by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (UK) in 2005[7] and conducted regular audits[8] since then to pinpoint that the online media industry in the Middle East is genuine and measurable.
In March 2005, HSBC Private Equity Middle East Ltd.[9][10] acquired a significant equity stake in AME Info FZ LLC and on the 4th of July 2006, London-based Emap plc (EMA.L) announced that Emap Communications, its business-to-business (B2B) division, acquired AME Info for a cash consideration of $24m with further deferred cash consideration payable of up to $5m.[11][12] [13]
Following its sale to EMAP Lovgreen founded RingtoneFeeder with musician Geoff Smith[14] in April 2008 with the aim to be a subscription based service where customers would receive 2 original ringtones every week via an RSS feed.[15]
Lovgreen founded evershift in April 2011 to continue to make direct investments in technology companies, the first was a significant investment into APSU [16] - a merged managed services and infrastructure business in the UK. Klaus exited his position in APSU during a restructure by Business Growth Fund PLC (BGF) in October 2014.[17] In 2012 Lovgreen also joined the advisory board on behalf of evershift in The Royalty Exchange.[18]
In 2015 GivingTales co-founded by Lovgreen was launched which is a fairy tale app for children and adults alike. The stories are narrated by Sir Roger Moore, Stephen Fry, Ewan McGregor and Dame Joan Collins for the benefit of Unicef. [19]
Investments[edit]
Lovgreen became an Investor in several companies including Wordy,[20] Everbread,[21] Oxis Energy, Gridiant,[22] Malaysia.com and seed investor in Tradeshift in 2009.[23] In 2009, he made the 'Top Angels' list on TechCrunch[24] with three deals of unknown value.
In 2011 the Telegraph[25] named him 55th most influential technology investor in Europe.
