The untitled sequel to Knives Out (2019), known colloquially as Knives Out 2,[3] is an upcoming American mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson, and starring Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc. The film will follow Blanc taking on a new murder case.

Cast[edit]

Production[edit]

Development[edit]

In November 2019, shortly before the theatrical release of Knives Out, writer and director Rian Johnson said that if the film performed well at the box office, he would adapt a film series revolving around Daniel Craig's character, Detective Benoit Blanc, solving various mysteries, and that he already had an idea for the story and title for another film.[4] By January 2020, it was announced that Johnson was working on a script for the sequel, with Craig signed on to reprise his role.[5] In February 2020, Lionsgate Films officially approved the sequel,[6][7] but in March 2021, it was reported that Netflix had made a $469 million deal at an auction to obtain the rights to two sequels to Knives Out, where a losing bidder told Variety that, "The math doesn't work. There's no way to explain it. The world has gone mad. It's a mind-boggling deal."[8][9][10]

Casting[edit]

In May 2021, Dave Bautista,[11] Edward Norton,[12] Janelle Monáe,[13] Kathryn Hahn,[14] Leslie Odom Jr.,[15] and Kate Hudson were cast.[16] Bautista said he received a call from Johnson he did not know would lead to a possible casting and was encouraged to audition for Knives Out 2 after the conversation, centered around Breaking Bad, had concluded.[17] The next month, Madelyn Cline,[18] Jessica Henwick,[19] Ethan Hawke, and Jada Pinkett Smith were added to the cast.[20]

Filming[edit]

Principal photography began in Greece on June 28, 2021,[21][22] and is scheduled to conclude on August 28.[2]
