Biography[edit]

Early life[edit]

Koala was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 3. He showed great interest in music, especially hip hop, at a young age. He spent most of his childhood freestyling with friends and enjoyed writing poetry which aided in his writing raps. However, he lacked professional guidance and never had much confidence to perform in public as an Asian American. In hopes of pursuing a career in music, Koala moved back to South Korea in 2011.

Career beginnings[edit]

In Korea, Koala was introduced to John John and Jae Riggs. He had affinity with them due to their mutual Korean-American background in LA and shared interest in music. John John and Jae Riggs, already having been active musicians, guided Koala through stepping into the music industry. The three later co-founded the record label Bobblehead Music in 2017.

Career[edit]

Musical career[edit]

Koala's musical taste was greatly influenced by the LA street style, hip hop music that he encountered in his early teens. Koala appreciated hip hop because he could connect to and gain hope through the messages of adversity in those songs. He envisioned his music making such impact to his audience in the future.

As a rapper, Koala aspires to make fun, feel-good music that expresses his raw self in a stylish way, which is manifested in his recent single "Ggwala[1]." His ultimate goal for Bobblehead Music is to make music that influences fellow Korean-American gyopos (Korean immigrants) that anyone can overcome adversity if they push themselves to pursue their dreams just like the Bobblehead crew did.

Future plans[edit]

Koala currently works with various K-Pop artists and plans to expand his field of work internationally.
