Koala Airlines is a planned Australian low cost airline based out of Melbourne. It plans to operate a fleet of 737 MAX aircraft.
History
Koala Airlines can be traced back to the Australian airline Desert Air Safaris Pty Ltd which was formed in the 1970s operating a fleet of Douglas DC 3 aircraft on tourist missions across Australia before it was bought by Koala Airlines in 2018 or 2019.[1][2]
Desert Air Safaris initially only operated the Douglas DC 3 but would later operate modern propeller aircraft and in 1998 moved it's base of operations to Adelaide.[2]
Two other airlines, Rex and Bonza have tried the same model as Koala Airlines and both of them failed with Bonza ceasing flights and Rex entering administration as a result.[1][2]
In 2025 the airline had secured it's fleet of Boeing 737s.[3]
