Kottumala Aboobacker Musliyar (Arabic:كود ملا ابوبكر مسليار, Malayalam: കോട്ടുമല അബൂബക്കര് മുസ്ലിയാര്) widely known as Sheikuna Kottumala, was a veteran leader of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama and General Secretary of Vidyabyasa Board, the educational wing under the organization.
Early life
He was born to Kunnali Haji and Fathima in 1918 at Peringotpulam[citation needed] village near Malappuram. He studied his primary classes at his native land, and later went to Parappanangadi Panayathil Darse (masjid based college) under Maulana Abdul Ali Musliyar, then a celebrated expert in classical texts. By 1943, he completed his post-graduation in Islamic classical texts from Vellore Baqiyath Swalihath. He married Fathima, the daughter of Komu usthad who was a member of the samastha mushavara body. He was blessed with two daughters and two sons. Late Kottumala Bappu Musliyar, who was an active member of Samastha and principal of Rahmaniyya Arabic College, Katameri, is his son.
Services
After post-graduation, he commenced a Darse (masjid based college) in Kottumala of Oorkam village with three students, and later the institution became famous with the arrival of new students like MM Basheer Musliyar and EK Hasan Musliyar. In 1956, he was appointed as chief Mudarris (religious mentor) in Parappanangadi Panayathil Masjid and was the founder Mudarris of Pattikad Jamiya Nooria, the reputed Arabic college in the Malabar region established in 1963. He rendered his service as principal in Pattikad Jamiya Nooria during the period of 1977 to 1987. He was accompanied by Shamsul Ulama and Pathi Musliyar in his anti-dissident operation. In 1951, he joined the Mushavara board (consultation body) of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama and continued in the post until his demise. On February 23, 1957, he was elected as general secretary of Samastha Kerala Mata Vidyabyasa Board, the largest private education agency in Kerala, and continued in the post until his demise.[1]
Death
He died on July 31, 1987, and is buried at the nearby Juma Masjid at Kalambadi.
