Kousar Shafeeq is an Indian politician and social worker from the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. Affiliated with the Indian National Congress, she has been serving as the Vice Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) in Bandipora since 13 February 2021. Her election was part of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) coalition's successful performance in the 2020 Jammu and Kashmir District Development Council elections.
Early life and education
Kousar Shafeeq was born and raised in Patushay Bandipora district, known for its picturesque landscapes and strategic importance in northern Kashmir. While detailed information about her early education is not widely published, local sources indicate she completed her schooling in Bandipora before pursuing higher education in the region.[1]
Political career
DDC elections and tenure
In the 2020 DDC elections, Kousar contested as a PAGD candidate from the Bandipora constituency. The PAGD, an alliance of regional parties including PDP and National Conference, emerged as the dominant force in the Kashmir valley.[2]
On 13 February 2021, she was elected Vice Chairperson of the Bandipora DDC in the council's internal elections, with National Conference's Abdul Gani Bhat becoming chairperson.
