Sarthak Chaturvedi (Born 7th April 1985) is a legal advocate, social activist and politician. He started his career as a lawyer in Mathura[1] which is also known as the birth place of Lord Krishna. In the year 2015, he was appointed as a counsel for the government of Puducherry. Sarthak Chaturvedi appeared in several leading cases at Supreme court, National green tribunal and Delhi high court.

Early Life[edit]

Sarthak Chaturvedi was born in Mathura on 7th April 1985, Uttar Pradesh, and completed his higher education from Agra University which is formally known as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra. His Grandfather Pandit Raghunath Prasad Chaturvedi was a famous Sanskrit Scholar and educationist with Kendriya Vidhyalaya Mathura cantonment. Sarthak Chaturvedi's father Dr. M.L. Chaturvedi is a well-known Doctor at Mathura who has been president of the Indian Medical Association, Mathura, and President of the Hospital Association of Mathura. Dr. M.L. Chaturvedi is associated with the ‘Save the Girl Child’ campaign of The Government of India. He is also running one of the oldest Hospitals of Mathura – Raghunath Hospital.

His Mother Suman Chaturvedi was also a doctor in alternative medicine and homeopathy. She has always helped the poor and underprivileged by giving them free medicine. She also gave values of social commitment to her children. Elder brother Mohit Chaturvedi is an Entrepreneur/Educationist, running a ‘Kidzee’ school in Mathura.

Belonging to a family of doctors, Sarthak did his higher secondary education in Science from Sacred Heart School, Mathura and later went on to Pursuing Law, in line with his father’s desire.

Sarthak Chaturvedi was drawn to Social work from his early youth, during his higher studies he worked as an RTI Activist to curb corruption in various sections of the society. He completed his Law in the year 2007 from BSA College, Mathura

As Lawyer[edit]

Sarthak Chaturvedi started his career as a lawyer in Mathura which is also known as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. He started his practice in criminal cases and soon after having the in-depth knowledge of the practice and procedures of the trial court, he moved to New Delhi and started his legal profession at the Supreme Court of India. In 2014, Sarthak was appointed as the counsel for the Union of India. He has appeared for many departments of the Government of India in Delhi High Court. In 2015, he was appointed as a counsel for the Government of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the National Green Tribunal, where he appeared for the key matters related to environment and forest. In the year 2015 itself, he was appointed as a counsel for the Government of Puducherry. Sarthak has also appeared in several leading cases at Supreme Court, National Green Tribunal, and Delhi High Court. He has also assisted Padma Shree Senior Advocate Pravin H. Parekh and Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani, (Member of Parliament) in the Supreme Court. In 2016, Sarthak appeared for various matters related to the environment in the National Green Tribunal and Supreme Court of India. In the matter related to Yamuna pollution at Mathura cantonment, he appeared for the applicant (Tapesh Bhardwaj Vs Union of India), and during this case, NGT penalized Mathura Cantonment with a cost of 10 lac Rupees and Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board with 5 lac Rupees.

2018 - 19 In the famous case of Giriraj Parikrama Sanrakshan Sansthan V. State of U.P. related with Giriraj Parvat, he replaced Padma Vibhushan M C Mehta and through his sheer perseverance and hard work, Sarthak was instrumental in bringing to justice the anomalies prevalent in and around the Giriraj temple.

Consequent to the row among top CBI officials, Sarthak approached the Delhi High Court. He highlighted the lack of depth and comprehensiveness in the phone tapping and surveillance policy, which bestowed immense authority and unquestionable power in the hands of few officials.[2][3][4][5]

Highlighting how Mamta Banerjee’s favorite has been fabricating his qualifications, Mr.Chaturvedi filed a plea in 2019 before the Special Court against Abhishek Banerjee (nephew of Mamta Banerjee) of alleging him of filing a fake affidavit about his educational qualifications during recent and previous Lok Sabha elections, held in the year 2014 & 2019 respectively. In response to this complaint, the Special Court has summoned Abhishek Banerjee and asked him to appear before the Court.

2020 – Present During the unprecedented horrific situation of COVID-19, the Delhi Government imposed the order for restricted medical services to be provided to the residents of New Delhi only. Taking cognizance of the situation and arbitrary and unreasonable notices issued by the Delhi Govt., Sarthak Chaturvedi filed the plea revealing the vague definitions in the order and arbitrary and unreasonable conduct of the authorities. The Supreme Court took consideration of the plea filed by Mr. Chaturvedi and while quashing the impugned order, stated that the actions of the AAP led Govt. were a gross violation of Fundamental Rights and basic Human Rights guaranteed to the people irrespective of the circumstances.

He also appeared for a high profile matter from the State of Bihar, as a respondent/complainant counsel, he successfully was able to get his clients justice by getting him back the hard-earned money amounting to Rs 40 lakhs back from the clutches of the politician/mafia of Bihar, defended by Senior counsel Mr. Kapil Sibal.

He is currently appearing in many cases in the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High court, and several other High Courts of India.

As Political Activist[edit]

Having inborn leadership skills during his school and being an active person in working for the welfare of society, Sarthak was active in student politics since the time of his higher education. He joined ABVP as a student politician and was involved in other political and social activities as well.

Sarthak Chaturvedi and his family are associated with Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh and they strongly believe in the nationalist ideology and working for the nation.

Soon after starting his legal career, he became a member of the nation’s leading political party, the Bhartiya Janta Party. He strongly supported Prof. Devendra Sharma of BJP in the 2012 State Legislative Elections of Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2014, he has delegated the responsibility for working as the key legal member of Legendary actress Smt. Hema Malini in the 16th General Elections. After seeing his diligent working attitude for the party and because of the hard work he was appointed as a President of Bhartiya Janta Party Mathura Cantonment in 2016.

Sarthak, being an active member of BJP and constantly being ardent with party workers and in party works and activities, was appointed as the Legal Expert of actress Hema Malini in the recent Lok Sabha Polls because of his dutiful, responsible traits towards his work.

He even worked rigorously with Shree Shrikant Sharma (Power Minister for State of Uttar Pradesh) in his Vidhan Sabha Election from Mathura in 2017.

As Social Activist[edit]

Sarthak was drawn to social work from his youth. Since his graduation days, he worked as an RTI Activist to eliminate corruption from society. Being an activist since his school time, he used to conduct seminars and campaigns to promote Right to Vote and Right to Information to all the sections of the society and making them aware of their Fundamental Rights and Duties was his work of interest to build up links with people living in society. Sarthak is also associated with Civil Defence as deputy Divisional warden which is a government of India initiative and comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Mr. Chaturvedi is highly active on social media platforms, sharing his views and opinions through social media tools like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and mainstream media like LokSabha TV and many other news channels. LokSabha TV shows on which Sarthak has given his legal opinion are "Faisle", "India Speaks", "Nyay Chakra". He is also a regular speaker of political debates on various national, regional, and local media channels.

  • 2013 Bar Council of Delhi awarded Sarthak Chaturvedi in recognition of his remarkable commitment and voluntary services offered in the welfare of lawyers, more particularly for the junior members, deprived members, and lady members of the bar at Vigyan Bhawan on 4th May 2013 by Hon'ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the then President of India. He was awarded by Hindustan Times Mathura in a special program called "Fear" for physically and mentally challenged kids on 21st November 2013.
  • 2017 Sarthak was awarded by the Braj Press Club in the year 2017 for his work to promote legal awareness amongst the underprivileged and women.
  • 2018 Sarthak Chaturvedi was awarded Bharat Jyoti Award in the year 2018 by the India International Friendship Society (IIFS). The India International Friendship Society (IIFS) is a private voluntary organization based in New Delhi.
  • 2020 Sarthak Chaturvedi along with Tapesh Bhardwaj had been against the negligence and lenient conduct of the authorities in curbing the Yamuna Pollution[6] for a decade. As a counsel for a good cause and for constant struggle, they were awarded the Swaraj Rakshak Samman for diligently working for the protection of the environment and prevention of pollution.
