Koushik Chakraborty (Bengali: কৌশিক চক্রবর্তী[1], born 23 November, 1981) is Kolkata-based Indian singer, songwriter, independent filmmaker..[2]In 2016 Koushik invented a unique musical instrument called Montaar bringing the feel of Mandolin in Dotara.His contribution in the world of music has been highly acclaimed.[3]

Early life[edit]

Koushik was born in a middle class family to parents Shri Kalidas Chakraborty and Mrs. Jolly Chakraborty. His musical learning started at the tender age of 8 when his father became his first guru to shape his mental keel. Later he took formal 'Bengali Folk Music' training from Shri Chandrasekhar Roy.

Education[edit]

Completing his schooling from Ballygunge Government High School, he joined Asutosh College, an affiliated college of the University of Calcutta as a student of Political science.

Personal Life[edit]

Koushik married Eishita Chakraborty on 7th March, 2014. On 30th October, 2015 they became parents of a baby boy, Kanishka Chakraborty.

Prithibi and career[edit]

Prithibi stood runner up In 'Band E Mataram' a Bangla band reality show in 2005. Today “Prithibi” [4] is the most popular and one of the best Bangla bands In India.

Projects:

  • Prithibi has also composed the 'Kolkata Police Friendship Cup, 2007'. It was the same year, when 'Friendship Cup' entered into the Limca Book of Records.
  • Composed a song, 'Ray of Hope' for ARRAY, an NGO which works for underprivileged children. The song was sung by Prithibi and Usha Uthup.
  • Composed a song for IPL in collaboration with Red FM
  • Composed the theme song for Band-E-Mataram II
  • Did music direction for a Telefilm, 'Bombagorer Nattyo Company' in the year 2006.
  • Composed a song for Radio Mirchi especially for Poila boishakh.

  • 2015 - Kaushik Chakraborty also sung for an accalaimed film '89' starring Saswata Chatterjee, Raima Sen and Shataf Figar. Directed by Manoj Michigan and Music by Raja Narayan Deb. The band Prithibi also featured in the film's music video.
  • 2013 - Singles - The band released a single with a music video 'Lajja' against the Delhi Rape Case.
  • The lead vocalist of Prithibi Kausiq is doing his debut as a music director for two films at a time 1st one is "Help Line" and 2nd one is "Saare Char". He is also doing his debut as actor in that film. In that film music the lead vocalist Rock Band Cactus, Siddhu is singing on Kaushik's tune.

Nagar Sankirtan and career[edit]

Nagar Sankirtan is a project headed by Koushik and his students. The aim is to revive the ancient baul-fakiri and folk music of Bengal and present it to the global audience. It focuses on Bangla gaan irrespective of its genre. It is basically a bangla gaan revival project that makes tribute music videos, recorded and shot by Koushik himself.They perform Lalon Fakir, Shah Abdul Karim, Hashon Raja, Bhaba Pagla,Asmat Fakir, Purna Das Baul, Gour Khyapa & regional folk genres like Bhatiali, Bhawaiya,Shari, Murshidi, Goalpariya, Tushu, Bhadu, Jhumur.
