Kozaz Records is an Iranian record label specializing in the Persian hip hop genre. It was founded by music producer Saman Aref in Manchester in 2003.[1] Kozaz Records has released four studio albums and one mixtape since 2010. Kozaz means Tetanus in Persian language.
History
Development and First Album (Sleep Walking LP)
Saman Aref is an Iranian music producer from Manchester. He collaborated with Iranian rapper Mahdar[2] from Sweden. He produced eighteen tracks for Mahdar's debut album, the first release for Kozaz Records. This first LP album, titled Sleep Walking, was released in 2010.[3][4][5][6] Two weeks prior to release, Mahdar performed tracks from the album at the Exile Music Festival in Gothenburg.[7][8][9]
Second Album, Passing the Fog LP
In 2013, Kozaz Records released Mahdar's second LP, Passing the Fog, also produced by Saman Aref. The album features sixteen tracks.[10][11]
New Members, Third and Fourth Albums
In 2013, Kozaz Records welcomed new artists: Farbod Afraz from Glasgow[12] and Soheil from Tehran[13]. Before Christmas of that year, they released a mixtape and an album. [14] Later that year, Kozaz announced a new album featuring all artists, slated for release by the end of 2014.[15] In December 2014, they released a single featuring Masoud Gooran from Sari, a new artist. Gach Pazh released his first track from his debut album, Nostalgia, in 2015, also joining Kozaz Records.
Above the Black EP
The fifth studio album from Kozaz Records, Above the Black, was released on 28 February 2015.[16][17] This EP, produced by Saman Aref, included three songs composed by him and one by Farbod Afraz. For the first time, all Kozaz Records artists performed together on this album.
First Music Video
On 19 November 2015, Kozaz Records released their first music video, "The Gone With the Wind" by Gach Pazh.[18] The video, shot in Malmo, Sweden, featured both Gach Pazh and Mahdar.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content
