The Kreuz Leverkusen German: Autobahnkreuz Leverkusen is a Cloverleaf interchange in the German state North Rhine-Westphalia.

The roads crossing in the interchange are the A3 Dutch border near Elten-Emmerich am Rhein-Frankfurt am Main-Austrian border south of Passau and the A 1 Heiligenhafen-Dortmund-Saarbrücken. [1]

Geography

The interchange lies in the city Leverkusen in the center of the Metropolitan region Rhein-Ruhr.

The interchange forms the northern starting point of the beltway of Colongne. When you follow the A 1 in the direction of Dortmund you drive through the region Bergisches Land.

Good to know

The interchange lies near Bayer Chemiepark Leverkusen and the big sports facilities in Leverkusen, such as the BayArena, the Home stadium of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and the Smidt-Arena.

Strengthening of bridges and future reconstruction

Due to the 60–70 percent of heavy weight passing the bridge daily, from the 18th of February 2013, they started the strengthening of the bridges in the interchange. So they will last 10 to 12 years, because then they will widen the A1 into a 2x4 configuration, so then the bridges as well as the interchange have to be rebuilt.

Traffic near the interchange

The interchange is after the Frankfurter Kreuz and Kreuz Köln-Ost with approximately 235,000 vehicles per day, one of the busiest interchanges in Germany. The part of the A 3 between Kreuz Leverkusen and Dreieck Heumar is with 160,000 vehicles per day after the A 100 in the city of Berlin the most frequently used stretch of motorway in Germany.
