The Kreuz Magdeburg (German: Autobahnkreuz Magdeburg) is a cloverleaf interchange with a direct link in the German state Saxony-Anhalt.

The interchange forms the crossing between the A14 Wismar-Dreieck Nossen and the A2 Kreuz Oberhausen-Dreieck Werder. [1]

Geography

The interchange lies approximately 5 km northwest of Magdeburg, on the edge of the Magdeburger Börde in the municipal area of Hohe Börde in Landkreis Börde. Nearby cities and villages are Niedere Börde, Barleben, Hohenwarsleben, Irxleben and Magdeburg. It is also near the city district Olvenstedt in Magdeburg, as well as the villages of Dahlenwarsleben in the area of Niederen Börde and Ebendorf in the area of Barleben. It is almost equidistant between Hannover and Berlin.

History

The A 2 was built here in the 1930s. In 1998 the southbound A 14 opened. On 8 November 2000 the part of the A14 towards Dahlenwarsleben opened to traffic. Now the closing of the gap between Dahlenwarsleben and Kreuz Schwerin is partly ready and the other parts are under construction or are still in the planning phase.

Building form and road configuration

The A 14 north of the interchange is built in a 2x2 configuration, and south of the interchange it is built in a 2x3 configuration. The A 2 is also built in a 2x3 configuration. The direct westbound-southbound links are built in a 2-lane layout, the other connections have a single lane.

Traffic near the interchange

On a daily basis the Kreuz Magdeburg is used by 97,000 vehicles, making it the busiest traffic interchange in Sachsen-Anhalt.
