Kristal.AI raised a seed fund of over US$1.8 million in 2018[7], and subsequently, received funding of US$6 million to improve the company’s back-end technology, both led by Chiratae Ventures (formerly, IDG Ventures India).[8]

Kristal.AI counts DBS Bank, SAXO Capital, and Interactive Brokers (IB) as its custodians[9] where SAXO and IB also act as its brokers.[10] The company is regulated by the Monetary Association of Singapore (MAS), the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong, and by SEBI in India.

As of January 2020, the total funding is valued at USD$11M.[11]

History

Kristal.AI was founded in 2016 by Asheesh Chanda and Vineeth Narasimhan, who were previously classmates from IIT Delhi[12]

Asheesh Chanda had the vision to bring personalised wealth management to both accredited and retail investors[13]. With over 70 employees, the startup is currently operational in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, and the Middle East, and has clients from over 22 countries.[14]

In November 2016 Kristal.AI received its license from SFC (Hong Kong), followed by the SEBI RIA (India) license in January 2017. Kristal.AI Singapore was part of MAS’ Sandbox program from August 2017 – August 2018, and received its CMS license in August 2018. Kristal.AI incorporated a company to set up a representative office in the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) in August 2018.[15]

In 2018, it was announced that the startup had raised over US$1.8 million in a seed round, led by Chiratae Ventures, an India-based VC firm (formerly IDG Ventures India).[16]

In 2020, Kristal.AI received funding of US$6 million, also led by Chiratae Ventures[17], to improve the company’s back-end technology to expand further into the Asia Pacific region as well as the Middle East Markets.

Since its launch in 2016, the startup currently has over US$130 million in assets under management (as of 09/2020) for over 20,000 users on its platform.[18]
