Kumo 99 are a Electronic dance music / Electronic body music band consisting of Ami Komai and Nate Donmoyer, though Donmoyer considers their photographer, Kritopher Kirk, an informal third member. The band debuted with 99 Ways to Die, Choose one in 2020.
Almost all of the bands lyrics are Japanese, Donomoyer does not speak Japanese and does not know what Komai is saying in their music.[1] Performing in Japanese is a choice due in part due to Komai feeling as though she were expected to speak English. [2]
Their sophomore album, Headplate had a favourable reception, with David Renshaw of The Fader saying that " [Headplate] feels like strapping yourself into the mainframe and watching the sparks fly".[3]
