Kyle B. Mercier

Kyle B. Mercier (born 1981-)[1] is an American Technical Director. He currently is a technical director for WCBD-TV, a Media General owned NBC affiliate television station.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Mercier was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Northern Virginia area. He attended Hylton High School. He attended and graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, Arlington campus. He was a student at George Mason University, studying for Communication, where he produced and co-hosted a weekly 4-hour radio show on WGMU – “Casino Kyle and the Grimace” – He was an intern, then assistant producer on a popular morning show on Z104 WWZZ-FM, Washington D.C. where his love for radio grew, but decided he needed to branch out to a smaller market to get his career started

Career and Awards[edit]

Mercier moved to Charleston, SC in 2007 to begin a prosperous broadcasting career. He worked in the traffic department at the Clear Channel station 94.3 WSCC-FM, then quickly was promoted to morning show producer for “Charleston’s Morning News”. In 2009, he decided to try his hand in the world of television. Working part-time at the local NBC affiliate WCBD-TV, he started out as a production tech, running studio cameras, teleprompter, graphics, and the audio board for evening newscasts. In 2010, a full-time position opened up running audio for the morning show, so he decided to make the transition over from the radio station. Mercier trained and worked his way up to become a technical director, eventually becoming the senior weeknight evening director for the 5/10/11pm newscasts.

In 2016, Mercier earned a Southeast Emmy Award for BEST NEWSCAST for the coverage of the 2015 Massacre at Mother Emanuel. He also received multiple awards from the SC AP Broadcasting awards while at 94.3 WSCC-FM.
