LOONG 9 (Chinese: 龍九, lit. Dragon 9[1]) is a nine-person boy group selected from the 2023 Chinese boy group competition show Asia Super Young. Current members include Ollie (奧利), Ely Li (李權哲), Archie Sin (冼靖峰), Andrew Kon (江信熹), Shiyu Liang (梁詩煜), Albin Bai (白子奕), Sean Man (文佐匡), Hugo Wong (黃奕斌) and Felix Chen (陳梁).
Etymology[edit]
The name is pronounced, in English, as 'Loong Nine' (IPA: [lʊŋ naɪn]), and in Chinese, as '龍九' (Mandarin: lung3 jiu3 [lʊŋ˨˥ t͡ɕjou̯˨˩˨]).
Loong is the alternate name of the Chinese dragon, advocated by the Chinese authorities, whereas 9 denotes the number of current members.[2]
The General Manager of TVB Eric Tsang decided that the group adopt the name LOONG 9 since it was selected in the Year of the Dragon, and Loong would be their totem and symbol.
History[edit]
LOONG 9 was formed through the reality television show Asia Super Young during the final show on March 9, 2024. On the live broadcast of the finals, it was announced that Ollie placed first, followed by Ely Li, Archie Sin, Andrew Kong, Liang Shiyu, Albin Bai, Sean Wen, Hugo Wong, and Felix Chen respectively. Their first activity was to practise in Beijing.[3]
