Biography[edit]

David Lowe (born September 17th 1979), known professionally as LUCKYKAT (pronounced "lucky cat") is a British/American electronic music producer and DJ. He produces progressive house, electro house, tech house and melodic techno. In 2021, he founded his own record label and music production company Katnap Music. He has worked with Israeli singer/songwriter Yali Blank and his music has been featured on radio stations in Canada, USA[1], Scotland [2], Wales [3] and England.[4]

Early Life[edit]

David's life started in Blackpool in the north-west of England.[5] He states his first memory of music was listening to the White Album (actually the self title "The Beatles" by The Beatles) which was a vinyl copy shown to him by his Dad. He grew up listening to old skool rave music introduced to him by a neighbor. After being taught how to play the violin, he learned how to play the guitar and started songwriting. His biggest influences during his teens were Oasis, Radiohead, The Chemical Brothers, Portishead, Primal Scream, Amon Tobin and Massive Attack.

Career[edit]

David taught himself how to play bass guitar and drums and was part of two bands in Blackpool. He attended The School of Sound Recording in Manchester, England and learned sound engineering and basic sound design skills from his mentor. This was complimented with the use of a 4-track recorder in his bedroom studio. In his early 20s, he teamed up with some DJs and musicians from Madrid, Spain and played bongos, congas and Brazilian agogôs in London clubs like Turnmills. In 2012, he left England and moved to Austin, Texas where he formed the band Last Exit. He was the singer/songwriter and played lead guitar. After nearly dying from COVID due to complications with his asthma, he taught himself the digital audio workstation (DAW) Ableton Live while recovering. This was the catalyst for the release of 7 singles, 1 EP, 1 video game soundtrack and 3 remixes to be released in one year.
