Mexican Government Slanders Opposition[edit]

Reeling from the propaganda coup instigated by the protests, the Mexican government worked its local contacts a few days after the protests to smear and defame the Mexican collective Somos Los Otros NY. They submitted video to Telemundo in New York City where it was purported that the group was responsible for a possible false flag act of vandalism at the Mexican consulate in Manhattan. The claims were later found to be false, but CBS also ran a news segment echoing the consulate's position. The CBS spot featured Sandra Fuentes Berain accusing the group of radical beliefs and violence, of having smeared red paint on the consulate building and possibly bombing the consulate 10 years before.
