La Derecha Diario is an online newspaper covering news and opinion journalism, founded in Argentina.[3] The newspaper is available in Spanish and English, and also has a presence in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Honduras, Israel, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay.[4][5]
The newspaper is particularly active on social media and has attracted controversy over its close relationship with right-wing political figures.[6][7][8] It has been accused on several occasions of disseminating disinformation and fake news.[9][10][11] According to the Mexican version of Forbes, the newspaper had 30 million monthly readers in 2025.[12]
History
Beginnings
Around 2020, Argentine journalists Juan Pablo Carreira, Ezequiel Acuña and Fernando Cerimedo founded La Derecha Diario. The newspaper was one of the few digital news outlets to openly support Argentine president Javier Milei during the early stages of his political career, when he was still relatively little known, and in 2023 it played a significant role in his presidential campaign.[13] Because of this repeated support, Milei publicly thanked the outlet on several occasions. At the same time, the outlet was accused of spreading hate campaigns and fake news in support of the president.[12][14]
Cerimedo would later become a political consultant to Javier Milei's Argentine government and to the Brazilian government of Jair Bolsonaro in the field of digital communications.[15][16] Cerimedo describes himself as a right-wing activist and is known for his confrontations with media outlets and journalists associated with the political left.[3][17]
La Derecha Diario played a significant role during the 2022 Brazilian general election, similarly supporting President Jair Bolsonaro's campaign for re-election. Fernando Cerimedo was the only foreign national accused by Brazilian authorities of collaborating in the 2023 attempted coup, allegedly through the dissemination of false news and information during the campaign; Brazilian authorities subsequently ordered La Derecha Diario to be blocked throughout the country.[18][16] However, in 2025, Brazilian prosecutors dropped all accusations against Cerimedo.[15] Cerimedo was arrested in Bolivia in August 2026 over allegations that he had ordered the killing of his former partner.[19]
Acquisition by Javier Negre
In August 2024, Spanish journalist and businessman Javier Negre, owner of the Right News Media conglomerate, which included EDATV and UHN Plus, traveled to Buenos Aires after exchanging messages with Milei on social media. Negre subsequently met with Cerimedo, and they agreed that Right News Media would acquire a 50% stake in the newspaper.[12][5] Negre was known in Spain for his social-media activity and numerous controversies, which had resulted in several court judgments against him.[20][21][22]
Negre later described his decision to invest in the newspaper, saying that after arriving in Buenos Aires he became interested in La Derecha Diario because of its support for Milei and its influence on social media. He stated that he subsequently met Juan Carreira and Fernando Cerimedo and offered to acquire a 50% stake, adding that he was surprised that the outlet operated with a staff of only four people despite its substantial digital reach.[12]
Expansion
In June 2025, the newspaper launched an English-language edition in the United States. It declared itself supportive of Donald Trump and sought to attract the country's Hispanic community.[4] The expansion was welcomed by members of Trump's political circle and received support from Trump digital strategist and X Strategies owner Alex Bruesewitz and senior Trump adviser Danielle Álvarez, who had developed the Hispanic-media strategy for Trump's most recent presidential campaign.[12] A few months later, the newspaper became involved in a dispute between Javier Milei and Vice President Victoria Villarruel, who filed a complaint against Negre alleging four offenses.[23]
In October 2025, it was announced that La Derecha Diario had acquired UHN Plus Media, a digital news outlet in which Javier Negre had acquired a 50% stake in 2024, with the aim of forming a Spanish-language conservative media bloc. Negre was appointed vice president and became a partial owner.[24][25] The following month, Forbes México described the newspaper as one of the most popular digital media outlets in the Spanish-speaking market and reported that it had reached 30 million monthly readers,[12] although El País reported that its traffic came primarily through social-media platforms such as X, rather than through its website.[6]
