The Labour Party (Russian: Партия труда; Partiya truda) is a political party in the Russian Federation that defines itself as a political organization operating on the territory of the Russian Federation, created to protect the interests of workers in political power and management, political support for trade unions and the real provision of political and social rights of the majority of the population and a modern leftist party, which includes the social democratic wing.
The initiators of the creation of the party were representatives of the Socialist Party (Boris Kagarlitsky, Vladimir Kondratov), the Confederation of Anarcho-Syndicalists (Andrey Isaev), the Marxism-XXI group (Alexander Buzgalin, Andrey Kolganov), the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions (Mikhail Nagaitsev, Tatyana Frolova), who came out in August 1991 with an Appeal for the creation of the Labour Party
The founding conference of the party took place only on December 9-10, 1992. At the conference, the Party Council (21 people) was elected, which, in turn, elected the Executive Committee (11 people), the Chairman of the Council (Oleg Smolin) and the EC secretary (Alexander Segal).
The party was not officially registered, but in November 1992, registration documents were submitted to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
At the 1st Congress, Oleg Smolin was elected chairman of the party. In the fall of 1994, some of the leaders of the Labour Party took part in the creation of the Social Democratic Union (Boris Kagarlitsky actively opposed this). Then the activity of the party actually ceased.
