Legend[edit]
It is said that after the famous Daksh Yagna incident , shiva carried away the corpse of Devi Sati and wandered all around the universe after some time, his anger increased and he performed tandav dance which disbalanced the world,in order to stop him Vishnu uses his Sudarshan chakra to cut down devi sati corpse into 51 pieces. Where the body part fell , there a shaktipeetham is established(divine temples of Parvati). Here,Devi sati heart fell at the exact location where the temple stands.[3]After some time, some sages who were helped by Brahma to perform penance at the chakra kund site can not perform penance properly because the flow of the water in chakra kund is very high and they again approached Brahma, who advised them to approach devi lalita, they approached to devi and Devi helped them by re-establishing the flow of chakra kund(teerth),therefore sages requested her vigrah at the shaktipeeth site, she agreed and a black stone murti of lalita devi originated at the shaktipeeth site.[4][5]
