Lamers Bus Lines is a bus company that provides school bussing, charter services, escorted tours, and intercity bus routes. Their current intercity bus operations extend across Wisconsin, and include service to one out of state city, Dubuque, Iowa.[1]
History[edit]
Lamers Bus Lines was founded in 1944 by Lyle and Ellen Lamers. Operations began with a single school bus serving the Grant school district and Nicolet High School. The company continued to expand in 1950 with school bussing for the Ashwaubenon school district and in 1960 for the Green Bay Area school district. The company expanded to charter bus operations in the 1960s with the purchase of their first coach, a used Greyhound PD 3751. 1966 saw the opening of their corporate headquarters in Ashwaubenon by the Austin Straubel International Airport. Terminals in West De Pere and Wisconsin Rapids opened in the following years. The Interstate Commerce Commission granted Lamers Bus Lines permission to transport charter bus tours anywhere in the continental United States in November 1980.
Intercity bus service began April 3, 2006 with the launch of Lamers Connect. The first route connected Wausau with Milwaukee via Stevens Point, Waupaca, and Fond du Lac, a route which continues to operate in 2022.[2] In 2011, Lamers Connect added routes radiating from Madison to Dubuque, Wausau and Green Bay, while an additional Wisconsin Rapids-Madison-Milwaukee route began on April 8, 2014.[3][4]
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Lamers Bus Lines business was down 95% in the fall of 2020.[5] However, Lamers buses continued to serve Wisconsin throughout. As of 2022, Lamers Bus Lines is Wisconsin’s largest family-owned bus company. Lamers has 40 locations in Wisconsin, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Central Florida.[6]
Lamers Connect[edit]
Lamers Connect operates two routes as of September 2022. The first connects Dubuque with Madison and Milwaukee, where a connection is made with the second route from Wausau via Stevens Point and Appleton. These routes stop in the following cities:[1]
