Lamorna Alexander is an Australian politician, and has represented the district of Mount Gambier in the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2026 state election. Alexander is a member of the Liberal Party, and was a lawyer before entering politics.

Early life

Alexander spent her childhood in Kingston SE, and is a mother of three.[2][3] Prior to moving to Mount Gambier, Alexander raised her family in Penola.[2]

Career

A lawyer and former self-employed beauty therapist, Alexander was endorsed to contest the 2026 South Australian state election in Mount Gambier for the Liberal Party in August 2025.[2][3][4] Alexander prevailed over Lucy Lines, a fertility specialist, in the preselection.[4][5] Despite being considered a conservative seat, the Liberal Party has only held Mount Gambier once since 1997, in the three years between Troy Bell's election in 2014 as a Liberal and his resignation from the party in 2017 after an ICAC investigation.[3]

In the lead-up to the election, Alexander called for a regional round of the South Australian National Football League to be held in Mount Gambier.[6] She has advocated for local infrastructure projects in the electorate, and supported the building of a cancer radiation centre in Mount Gambier.[3] Alexander's campaign issued flyers advocating against a vote for an independent politician, citing the case of Bell, Mount Gambier's previous MP who had been jailed for fraud, and Nick McBride, the MP in MacKillop, who was charged with domestic violence offences.[3] Alexander was successful at the 2026 state election, becoming the MP for Mount Gambier. Alexander is the first female MP to represent Mount Gambier.[3]

Notes

  1. ↑ Troy Bell, the previous MP for Mount Gambier, resigned from the House of Assembly on 2 September 2025. Due to the proximity to the state election, no by-election was held.[1]
