Lane Patterson (27 December, 1939 – May 5, 1967) was an American track and field sprinter who competed in the 100-yard dash and the 220-yard dash. Born in York, Pennsylvania and raised in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, he ran for Glenbard West High School. In the 1955-56 season, he completed the 100-yard dash in 9.9 seconds and the 220-yard dash in 20.9 seconds. [1]

In the 1956-57 season, he ran the 100-yard dash in 10.0 seconds and the 220-yard dash in 21.9 seconds. [2]

While at University of Missouri, he was the captain of the track team. He participated in the half mile relay in 1:26.4 with James Leslie, John Ullery, and Jim Baker, at the 1960 Drake Relays,[3] and in 1:25.5 at the same event in 1961. [4]

At the 1960 Kansas Relays with Dave Butts, Jim Leslie, and Jim Baker for a second place finish of 1:26.0. [5]

He completed the 220-yard dash in 21.1 seconds at the 1960 Kansas State meet in Manhattan, Kansas. [6]

He completed the same event in 1961 in 1:29.9 with Dave Butts, Gregory Pelster, and James Baker, also for a second place finish. [7]

He graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in Forestry in 1962.

After captain of Missouri track he ran for several years for the famous University of Chicago Track Club Ted Haydon.

He was drafted to the US Marines and attended the Officer Candidates School (United States Marine Corps) at Marine Corps Base Quantico and became a Second Lieutenant in 1963.
