Languages of Chitral
Chitral is a place of great language diversity. The official languages are Urdu and English, though Khowar is the most spoken language. Most languages in Chitral are either Dardic languages, Iranic languages, or Nuristani languages. Around 24 languages are spoken in Chitral[1] including Central Asian Arabic, Balti, Burushaski, Dameli, Domaaki, Dari Farsi, Dangariwar, Gawar-Bati, Kalasha-mun, Kalkoti, Kamviri, Kohistani, Khowar, Kyrgyz, Madaklashti, Munji, Palula, Shekhani, Shina, Torwali, Turkmen, Ushoji, Uzbek, Wakhi, and Yidgha.
Norwegian linguist Georg Morgenstierne wrote that Chitral is the area of the greatest linguistic diversity in the world.[2]
