Last Minute to Jaffna (hereafter LMTJ) is an Italian post-metal band, founded in Turin, Italy in mid 2000s.
History[edit]
Jaffna is a city in Sri Lanka affected in 2004 by the earthquake and tsunami.[1] The band formed a couple of months after those events, and they wanted that the band's name could evoke apocalyptic scenarios.[2]
LMTJ self-released their first EP in 2006. With their début album Volume I (2008) they marked a better refinement of their own music style, thus allowing them to tour
intensively throughout Europe. Noteworthy, LMTJ performed the opening for Isis at Turin's independent Spaziale festival in 2009. The same year, Canadian label Abridged Pause included their track "Chapter XII" in its Diluvian Temperals sampler.
In 2011, LMTJ played an unplugged gig opening for Neurosis' Scott Kelly in Turin. After this important step in the band's history, they decided to record some old tracks and some new ones with acoustic guitars, clean voices and other odd instruments: the results were included in Volume III (2014, Bare Teeth Records) and Volume II (2015, Argonauta Records) albums.
Through the years they shared the stage with: Isis, Scott Kelly, Ufomammut, Zu, The Ocean, Wolves In The Throne Room, Kylesa, The Secret, Lesbian, Lair Of The Minotaur, Capricorns and many more.
In 2016, LMTJ played again an unplugged gig opening in Turin for Scott Kelly and Amenra' Colin H. van Eeckhout (CHVE).
Influences[edit]
LMTJ are inspired by the work of classical alternative rock/grunge bands Nirvana and Alice in Chains and experimental rock bands Grails, Earth, Harvestman, Swans or Death In June.[3]
