Lateef "SANNI" Oladimeji (born 21 May 1965 ) is a Professor of Food Science and Technology,.[1][2] a Postharvest innovator on cassava and root crop development, and consultant to Federal Government of Nigeria (Cassava Value Chain), Non-governmental organization and international bodies like Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and International Institute of Tropical Agriculture[3]

Marriage, family and personal life[edit]

Lateef Oladimeji Sanni was born and bred in Isale Alfa, Iyana Adeoyo and Oje Atipe, Ibadan, Oyo State. He is the third (3rd) child of his mother and tenth (10th) of his father, Pa. Rufai Sanni of blessed memory. He is married to Silifat Ajoke Sanni (Nee Aboaba) of Igbein in Abeokuta, Egba Kingdom, Ogun State, Nigeria and has several children.

Education[edit]

Lateef Oladimeji Sanni, attended Ibadan Municipal Government Primary School (1973 – 1978) and then Baptist Grammar School, Ikire from (1978–1983).

He had a brief stint at The Polytechnic, Ibadan before his admission to the Pre-Degree Programme at the then Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB) during the 1984/85 academic session. He enrolled for the Undergraduate programme in the Department of Food Science and Technology in 1985. He witnessed the metamorphosis of our University from FUTAB to College of Science and Technology, University of Lagos Abeokuta (COSTAB) and the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) in 1988. His class was the pioneer set that graduated in 1990, and he was the best graduating student in his Department.

His research career started during the 1989/90 academic session under the supervision of Professor Olugbenga Ben Ogunmoyela, now at the Bells University of Technology, Ota. He graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta with Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Food Science and Technology in 1990.[4]

After his National Youth Service, at the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Otukpo, Benue State, he returned to the University of Ibadan in 1991 to pursue his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy Food technology under the supervision of Dr. A. O. Oguntunde and Professor J. A. Akingbala. He obtained Masters and Ph.D Degrees in 1993 and 1999 respectively. From 1995 to 1996, the World Bank facility allowed Dr. Sanni to be mentored by Professor Andrew Westby, the Director of Natural Resources Institute University of Greenwich ; Chatham, United Kingdom.[5]

Career[edit]

He joined the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) in 1993 as Assistant Lecturer, became Professor of Food Science and Technology in 2008 and presented my inaugural in 2015.

He has published 94 Technical Journal articles; 30 Books, and 30 Conference proceedings[6]

Apart from teaching courses at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, he has supervised in collaboration with colleagues’ well over 100 undergraduates, 17 Master and 24 PhDs.

Sanni's stint at IITA as a Post-harvest Specialist for the Integrated Cassava Project and NRI, UK Value Added Projects launched him as a major Post-harvest technical hub of the Presidential Initiative and Transformation Agenda on Cassava in Nigeria and Africa from 2004 to date, working in over twenty-six (26) states in Nigeria and at least six African countries.[7][8]
