Laura Sirot
Laura Sirot is an American scientist and politician.[1] She is Professor of Biology at the College of Wooster, and the 2026 Democratic candidate for the Ohio State Senate's 31st district.[2][3][4]
Sirot is co-founder with Dr. Stephanie Strand (College of Wooster) and Dr. Jeffrey LeJeune (Ohio State) of the Wooster Science Café.[5][6] The Science Café is a monthly public forum for local scientists to talk with the community about a broad range of current topics like pest management, light pollution, managing ADHD, and stream health.[7]
Laura Sirot is on the board for Wayne County Children's Services, where she advocates for the needs of foster children.[8][9]
2026 Ohio State Senate campaign
Sirot's campaign has focused on issues including affordability and funding public education.[10] In a 2025 interview announcing her campaign, Sirot stated "“Every day in both my personal and professional life, I work on solving problems that we can do something about. As your state senator, I’ll approach my job with the keen ability of a mother to identify problems and the know-how of a scientist to address them.”[11]
