Laurel Williams Academy
Laurel Williams Academy is a co-educational private school grades 9-12 located in Miami, Florida. It was founded in 1932 by Antonio Fernandez and named after Laurel Williams, a famous artist of the 19th century.
History[edit]
In 1932, philosopher and scientist Antonio Fernandez opened what was known as "Knox Academy" after his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. He soon befriended with 19th-century artist Laurel Williams, who later died of a severe illness. He quickly renamed the school Laurel Williams, after his late friend.
Laurel Williams Academy was first an academy for the Arts, but in 1987, was changed to a school for 'academically gifted children'.
