Lauren Rebecca Briggs (born 24 April 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender and midfielder for Durham[1] in the FA Women's Championship.

Club career[edit]

Briggs was part of the Durham development team that won the ESFA Under-16's Trophy, playing in the final in a 3-2 victory over Kent.[2]

Briggs made her 50th senior appearance for Durham during the 2020/21 season[3]. On June 27 2021 Briggs signed a one year contract extension with Durham for the 2021/22 Women's Championship season.[4]

Briggs scored Durham's first league goal of the 2021/22 season against Championship newcomers Watford.[5][6]

Briggs played during Durham's record highest scoring Championship win in the 7-1 fixture against Coventry United.[7]

As of December 2021, Briggs is the 12th most used player in Durham's history.[8]

Despite typically being a centre-back, Briggs has played largely at left-back due to injuries on fellow teammates Abby Holmes and Becky Salicki during the 2020/21 Women's Championship season.

Playing Style[edit]

Briggs has been reported as a defender that is effectual as an attacking option. Journalist Richard Speight reported that Briggs often "has the next step planned out when receiving the ball".[9]
