Laurie Michelle Bridges (born on K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Marquette County, Michigan, United States, November 12, 1972), is an American librarian specializing in academic libraries, technologies and education.
Career[edit]
She obtained a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington in 2006.[1][2] Since September of that same year, she has been working as a librarian and associate professor at Oregon State University at the Valley Library,[3] specializing in training and emerging technologies. [4] [2] [5]
Her research include the use of Wikipedia[6] in the field of higher education and academic libraries, social justice in higher education and linguistic justice,[1] the use that libraries make of social networks, information literacy, as well as free access to information and fake news, among others.[7] She is also co-editor, along with Raymond Pun and Roberto Arteaga, of the book Wikipedia and Academic Libraries: a global project,[8] to be published in September 2021.[9] Her work shows evidence on how librarians can promote diversity in digital environments.
She is a member of the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries[10], and is the information coordinator for the Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE) Advisory Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Libraries (IFLA).[11]
