Lazaro Mangubat
Gabriel Lazaro Mangubat, also known as Captian Lazaro Mangubat,[2] was a Gobernadorcillo, a Filipino governor, from the 17th-century.[1]
In 1630 Lazaro the Mangubat established the first organised settlement in the northern part of Bantayan in sitio Mancilang, where Madridejos is now located. He was the founder of Lawis (meaning point to the sea).[3] It was also him who proclaimed it a visita (beginnings of a parish) of the town of Bantayan.[4][not in citation given]
The people of Madridejos honored its founder by naming one of the streets LAZARO MANGUBAT ST. [5]
