Learn Engineering' 'is a YouTube channel created to educate eager students who are studying in the field of engineering, but many followers are adults who simply want to learn more about what drives our human world. The channel’s founder, Sabin Mathew [1], is a postgraduate engineer from the University of IIT Delhi[2] located in India. The channel itself explains various concepts about different forms of engineering, even going into detail about automobile and aeronautical engineering.

History and Start of the Channel

Sabin Mathew, according to the story of how his channel got started, felt very passionate about physics and mathematics and described engineering as simply being applied physics. The channel, according to Sabin, started after he had lost his job working as an engineer. He got back on his feet and started a company doing engineering services for other companies. The income greatly depended upon how many projects he and his team got to work on. He contemplated whether or not he should create a YouTube channel for quite some time before starting the channel back in Dec 3, 2012. [3][2] The first few videos uploaded weren’t very high quality, but later when Learn Engineering was starting to gain momentum, Sabin hired professional animators to assist in his YouTube career. Today, they are a team of four people, who create professional videos to teach others about engineering. The funding comes from the Learn Engineering Patreon account where many subscribers choose to support them, and their work.[4][5]

Learn Engineering’s About Us Page

The Learn Engineering’s About Us page explains their aim with their YouTube channel. In many cases around the world it is evident that students sitting in a classroom with many other students tend to not pay as much attention to the courses that are attending. Learn Engineering believes they have an alternative environment to that of the classroom. Instead they provide informational videos in conjunction with student’s university studies in the field. They explain their aim in the following segment taken from the page: “We aim to provide quality engineering education. Our videos are designed to clear misconceptions, create a passion for engineering and explain complicated technologies in a simple way. Our aim here is to present people the so called ‘tough engineering concepts’ in a logical and simple way. Interactive videos are the answer for that. And we try to keep Mathematics at the bay in our articles & videos.”[5] [6]

Growth of The Channel

Today there is a total of 1.8 million subscribers to the channel, with monthly views of up to 8 million. And according to the site socialblade the 30 days past from the date this page was created, Sep 4th 2018, the total number of people viewing Learn Engineering videos are 4,749,540 with a rise in 3.2% in the past month; the total number of new subscribers within the past month are 75,435, an increase of 2% from previous months.[7] The number of subscribers is increasing, and the rate at which new viewers subscribe is not going to decrease any time soon. Learn Engineering was listed as one of the best engineering YouTube channels by many engineering websites [8] [9] .The channel expects an exponential growth to continue which in turn allows Sabin’s team to create more videos and educate more people.
