Lee Young-kyung (Hangul이영경; RRLee Young-kyung, born 1966 in Daegu, South Korea) is a Korean picture book author and illustrator. Born as the youngest of five children, Lee studied oriental painting at Seoul National University College of Fine Arts. In 1998, Lee published The Seven Friends in a Lady's Chamber, a rewritten version of the Korean classic, Gyujung chilwu jaengnongi (Chinese: 閨中七友爭論記)[1], for children. The Seven Friends in a Lady's Chamber won a gold medal in the creative picture book category at the 2001 SBS Children's Media Awards and was included in Korean language textbooks for Korean elementary schools. The work was also selected for the White Ravens 2006 “Special Mention" category in 2006. In 2004, she published a poetry picture book, Half Past Four, providing illustrations for the poems by Yun Seok-jung. In 2020, she published A Cat's Life, a philosophical tale about the human condition through the lens of a stray cat. In 2022, Lee was nominated as the candidate for Korea in ALMA 2022. Lee’s notable works include The Seven Friends in a Lady's Chamber, Half Past Four, Kong-suk and Pat-suk, Plastic Bag Princess and Envelope Prince, and A Cat's Life.
